Swiss precision - in demand all around the world.

History

Maurice Schaerer founded a factory for the manufacture of medical equipment in the Swiss city of Berne in 1892. The company rapidly gained international renown for the production of sterilisation equipment, surgical devices and operating tables. The manufacture of breakfast appliances (i.e. coffee machines for hospital use) began in 1919.

Within only the next twenty years, the company began offering an expansive line of coffee machines to customers (ranging from the operators of small cafés to the operators of Grand Hotels) in the restaurant sector – a core competence that M. Schaerer AG continues to offer on a global scale today.

Many years of experience in metal processing and high-precision production methods as well as a mastery of water technology (originating with its development of sterilisation equipment) are some of the factors that have enabled M. Schaerer AG to establish its reputation as a manufacturer of coffee machines of the highest quality.

Always a step ahead in terms of technology, the pioneering company introduced the first coffee machine with a fully automatic hydraulic system to the market in 1957. The dosing mechanism for coffee was automated in 1967 and the first fully automatic machine with an integrated grinder was launched just two years later. These revolutionary developments by Schaerer culminated in an irreversible triumphal march for the fully automatic coffee machine.

Our next major breakthrough came in 1984: the legendary Schaerer Matic. In terms of coffee quality, beverage variety and range of options, this machine set new standards in the industry. The Schaerer Matic was then continuously refined through the application of numerous culminating in tis current richly deserved reputation as the "King" of fully automatic coffee machines.

The company, with its continous improvement culture, will continue to develop coffee machine systems to satisfy both existing and new consumers around the world.
