Enjoying coffee with a view
Enjoying a cup of freshly-brewed coffee almost 1300 meters above sea level while taking in the view of the Swiss Midlands and the Bernese Highlands - this has been possible at Hotel Weissenstein since August 1, 2019. After extensive renovations, the former spa house now shines with a new splendour and is attracting guests from near and far to the Solothurn mountain. What unites overnight guests, hikers and restaurant visitors of Weissenstein mountain is the desire for freshly-prepared, high-quality coffee specialities. The hotel counts on fully-automatic Schaerer Coffee Soul machines to satisfy this need.
Flexible gastronomy, consistent quality
For the gastronomical facilities, the team at Hotel Weissenstein decided on a mix of different concepts. Catering can be booked for events in the large meeting rooms, food and drinks can be provided outdoors for hikers and day trippers when the weather is nice, and food can be ordered á la carte in the evenings. No matter what the guests choose, they can always expect the highest quality. This high standard of course also applies for all coffee specialities. The hotel operates eight Schaerer Coffee Soul machines with various functions to ensure reliable and efficient service.
Four of the fully-automated machines are in used in the hotel, in the breakfast area. Two others are in the self-service area, where they can be used by the guests. In addition, there are two Schaerer Coffee Soul machines on special trolleys with water and waste water tanks, which can be used directly in the hall during conventions. All devices are equipped with the “Best Foam” fresh milk system. The eight machines are already producing up to 1500 cups a day, of which a large part are the classic orders, namely lattes and espressos. Due to the quick and easy preparation, specialities like cappuccinos and latte macchiatos are gaining in popularity and, thanks to the two machines equipped with the innovative “Hot & Cold” technology, cold coffee beverages will also be a part of the menu at Hotel Weissenstein in the future.
There were many reasons why Schaerer machines were chosen. On the one hand, the operators have already had good experiences with these machines at Hotel Edelweiss in Davos, and they are also impressed with their quality. On the other hand, the goal is to work together with as many local vendors as possible, be it regional farmers or coffee machine specialists from neighbouring Zuchwil.
Tradition and modernity
Before the hotel could open this August, some big challenges had to be overcome. Alone the transport of huge amounts of material over steep paths, at times with heavy snowfall on the mountain, was a real logistical feat. The renovation of the building, constructed in 1827 and a listed structure, was no less complex. The outcome of these efforts: An elegant combination of traditional and modern elements. The number of guest rooms in the old building rose from 20 to 54, and the impressive Mont Blanc Hall was modernised, all while keeping its historic charm. For example, during renovations, old wall coverings were found and a reprint was made, which now decorates parts of the walls. The large panorama hall and the neighbouring playground are new additions. The hall stands out due to its modern, open design and offers an impressive view in all directions. With a surface area of over 500 square meters, it is perfectly suited for trainings, conventions, company parties or large private events. Families with children in particular enjoy the newly-built playground, which is why Schaerer also helped sponsor its construction. In combination with the modernised old building, the overall impression is both spectacular and welcoming.
