Anyone researching current coffee trends will soon come across exotic-sounding creations such as mushroom coffee (made with extracts from medicinal mushrooms), bulletproof coffee (with added oil or butter), gorguma latte (based on sweet potato purée), proffee, or glow coffee. These trendy drinks not only offer coffee lovers unusual flavours but are also believed to provide health benefits. We've taken a closer look at two of these beverages — proffee and glow coffee — to explore their potential advantages.
Proffee and Glow Coffee
Coffee trends with protein and collagen powder

Protein powder + coffee = Proffee
Trend drink for fitness and sports
This drink is a real hit with both fitness enthusiasts and coffee aficionados. Proffee — a blend of protein shake and coffee — is ideal for athletes. After all, coffee and fitness complement each other well. High-performance and endurance athletes, such as professional cyclists, often view coffee as an essential part of their training routine. Why? Because caffeine, an alkaloid, can help banish fatigue, boost metabolism, and enhance performance.1
Proffee = pro figure
Proffee is said to support weight loss, as it helps suppress appetite. Proteins promote a feeling of fullness, delaying the onset of hunger. As a result, fewer calories are consumed throughout the day. Moreover, protein serves as a building block for muscle – and the more muscle mass you have, the higher your energy expenditure and fat-burning potential. This effect is well documented. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, founded in Ohio, USA, in 1917, has been researching these connections since 2016.2

The recipe for the protein coffee
Proffee tastes great hot or cold and is easy to prepare: froth 150 ml of milk or use a fully automatic coffee machine. Add two heaped teaspoons of protein powder and stir thoroughly. Alternatively, the protein powder can be mixed directly with the milk before frothing. Pour the mixture into a tall glass and top with a freshly brewed espresso. For the cold version, blend the milk and protein powder until smooth, then pour over ice cubes in a glass. Allow the espresso to cool before adding it.
Very simple: preparation with the right machine
In this case, the Schaerer Coffee Soul with integrated Hot & Cold technology is ideal. The coffee is brewed hot, then cooled to between 30 and 35°C, allowing it to be served with or without ice — all while retaining its full flavour.
For a vegan version, simply replace dairy milk with a plant-based alternative and use vegan protein powder. Options made with soy, pea, or rice protein are now widely available. Thanks to the Schaerer Twin Milk system, this can be done easily using a fully automatic machine like the Schaerer Coffee Soul or Schaerer Coffee Skye. The external cooling unit, positioned beside or beneath the machine, accommodates two different milk types, allowing users to choose between dairy and plant-based options as needed.

Stir in the collagen powder, ready, go
Collagen powder is typically flavourless, so it can be stirred into any coffee — black or with milk. The recommended daily dose is about one tablespoon. However, it’s important to choose a high-quality, easily soluble product.
As collagen is often sourced from cattle, make sure it comes from pasture-raised animals. Vegan alternatives containing specific amino acids that stimulate collagen production are also available. Animal-derived collagen, on the other hand, can be absorbed by the body directly.
The peptides are heat-resistant up to 300°C — so collagen can safely be added to hot beverages, soups, and stews without compromising its benefits.
